KGB History

The First Squadron Insignia

Circa 1985

In early 1985 our Bureau Chief was a young cadet in the United States Air Force Auxiliary, The Civil Air Patrol.   A highly motivated future paratrooper, the youngster set out to make his mark in the organization and help make a difference by volunteering for search and rescue missions, assisting in recruiting and in preparation for a career in the military and aviation.

As a member of the First Composite Squadron, Kansas Wing, Civil Air Patrol Cadet Jason Miller (who later became who we know as "Ivan") put his artistic skills to work.   In need of a squadron insignia, the 16 year old cadet created and submitted the design displayed here.   The design was accepted and approved and used for many years with the Wichita CAP squadron.  (The squadron was reorganized later as The "Emerald City Composite Squadron.")

This was the first documented design work done by Jason Miller.   It's an interesting first start as it's the same sort of market Kamikazi Graphix Bureau: KGB focuses on today:   aerospace oriented design.

The Civil Air Patrol is an all volunteer organization.   Both youth and adults can engage in aerospace education, physical fitness, aviation training, search and rescue, and other activities.   Each year the Civil Air Patrol assists in finding downed aircraft, maritime patrol, disaster relief, and many other public services.   With a long history and tradition the Civil Air Patrol is an excellent organization.

The CAP with assistance for the U.S. Air Force provides scholarships for education and flight training to many cadets.    It was on a CAP / Air Force scholarship that our own Jason Miller received his first official flight training, and solo flight in a powered aircraft!
